HUGE ACCUMULATION
PATRIOTIC AND CANTEEN FUNDS RELIEF OF SERVICEMEN At the present time the total amount in the Patriotic and Canteen Funds throughout New Zealand amounted to over £4.000.000, and this money would be expended over a period of 40 years to assist servicemen requiring relief, said Mr S. B. Butler at the annual meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Otago Homeservicemen’s Association last night. The fund was the largest in the British Empire on a population basis and. where necessary, relief could be given on a generous scale. The funds were not available for general community purposes, but for the relief of servicemen and their dependents. The length of service or the zone in which it was given did not count, but each application would be considered on its merits. Officers elected were:—President, Mr R. M. Wilkie; immediate past president, Mr S. B. Butler; vice-president, Mr A. Torrance: treasurer. Mr H. B. Murray; auditor, Mr R. Cook; executive —Messrs A. Chisholm. S. R. Crimp T. J. Laing, H. H. Lethaby, N. H. McMullan, A. G. Passmore, and W. F. Townsend. v
