OAMARU GARRISON BAND

At the annual meeting of the Oamaru Garrison Band on Monday night it was reported that although the band had an active playing strength of only 24 it had met on" 126 occasions during the past year. Mr A. Nuttall was in the chair. Tire band, although not going to the contest in Dunedin, performed well in the contest at Temuka and met with a good deal of success. A record class of 20 learners under the tutorship of Mr T. Ovens had made rapid progress during the past year and would in time undoubtedly solve the shortage of players in the main band. Mr Nuttall said that it was gratifying to have had such strong support from the public duiing the past year, and he thanked all those who had helped the band. Mr Ovens spoke highly of the work done for the band by Mr Nuttall as chairman and congratulated him on tlje keen interest that he had taken in the band since he had held that position. Hay; custodian, Mr R. Tonkin; librarian, Mr G. Ovens; committee—G. Ovens, K. Thorby and E. Burke; auditor, Mr H. Joll; junior band coach, Mr T. Ovens.
