GOVERNORS’ ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Board of Governors of John McGlashan College was held on Thursday last in the college library, and was attended by Messrs A. C Cameron (in the chair), O. G. Gray, T C. Ross, J. P. Cook, J. R. Benson, J. F. Ross, the Rev. J. J. Cairney, Professoi G. A. F. Knight and Dr A Borrie. Mr Cameron was re-elected chairman of the board, and Mr Gray was elected vicechairman. The following were elected as conveners of committees:—Finance, Mr W. S. Gilkison; House and Works, Mr Gray; Education, Mr Cook; Grounds and Sports, Mr J. F. Ross.
After the adoption of the accounts and balance sheet, the chairman expressed the board’s thanks to the staff for their enthusiasm and co-operation during the past year. He paid a special tribute to the principal, Mr J. Conolly, and thanked him on behalf of the board for his constant interest in the well-being of the college and pupils. The thanks of the board were also expressed to the college chaplain, the Rev. J. M. McKdhzie, for his unceasing work. At the monthly meeting of the board confirmation was given of the appointment of Mrs I. Holditch as art mistress to the college. Mrs Holditch, a graduate of the Central School of Art and Crafts, London, takes the place of Miss R. Dyer, who has been awarded a studentship at the same school of art.
Mr Gray reported that the tables for the teachers which had been given by an old collegian were at the college and added to the appearance of the classrooms. The principal reported that the trophies which had not been engraved in time for the informal break-up ceremony held before the schools closed last year had been presented at the annual meeting of the John McGlashan Association. Under the will of Miss Catherine Ferguson the sum of £IOO had been left to the College Memorial Chapel Fund, and the board expressed appreciation of this bequest. New heaters were authorised for the science block and also new . wiring for the installation of extra science equipment for the teaching of physics A sub-committee under Dr A. Borrie had considered the question of blazers and its recommendation that a plain navy blue blazer with the college monogram on the breast pocket was approved by the board.
Sir Patrick Duff will visit the college on Friday, June 4, when he will be shown the pupils at work and then address them in the hall.
