RELEASE OF AMERICANS DEMANDED REJECTED BY LEBANON N.Z.P.A.—Copyright ■Washington, Rec. 10 p.m. * May 23. Lebanon has rejected the American demand for the release of 41 American citizens taken off the American ship Marine Carp at Beirut. The Lebanon Government stated that the Americans, all Jews of military age, were taken from a Palestinebound ship and interned “ in view of the safety of the Lebanese. army of occupation in Palestine, and for order and security.” American Planes Alter Course The homeward route of three United States Superfortresses from Germany has been changed “ because this does not seem like a good time for American military planes to visit A.rab countries,” air force sources said to-day. The original plan was for the planes to land at Dharam, in Saudi Arabia, and fly over other Middle East countries whose Arab leaders are annoyed at the United States for recognising the new State of Israel.
