NOTES ON THE RUNNING

WINGATUI SUCCESSES Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, May 23. Wingatui stables staited the day well when Sedgemere, traintd by R. A Surprise Win Flying Fort, owned and trained at Washdyke by W. P. Hogan, brought off a surprise win in the second division when he beat the Turk by. half a head after the pair had been locked together over the final furlong. Bonne Nuit and Bonny Royal had been responsible for the pacemaking but on the home turn they were joined by The Turk, Flying Fort and Repudiate, with Flying Fort and The Turk just shading Repudiate at the end. The Steeplechase Southlanders came to the fore in the Craigmore Steeplechase, the result being exactly the same as on the first day, with Lisheen easily beating San Quentin, with Debater a moderate third.
