COMFORTABLE WIN
PIRATES BEAT KAIKORAI Pirates had a comfortable win against the young and inexperienced Kaikorai team by 17 points to 3 in the early match at Carisbrook, and but for faulty handling and diagonal running by some of the backs the margin would have been much greater. ( The Pirates forwards packed more strongly than their opponents, and they were splendidly led by K. Skinner, wljose fast following was a feature. Skinner was given good support by R- IL D^ rr ®' cott, L. W. Dickson and D. R. Sapsford. The backs had the advantage of consistent possession from the scrums, but A. L. Mclndoe’s delivery was rather indifferent, and S. A. Sutherland indulged in too much running across the field. W. I Pcrriam played a steady game, and C. J. McDonald and C. Foley often combined well in play from midfield, McDonald giving an attractive display at centre three-quarter. R. H. Bell also used his pace to good effect on the wing. The Kaikorai pack improved in the second half, when it had the benefit of the experience of B. Barnes, who came on after half-time. W. Murray, a dashing young forward, was the pick, with E. McMillan and R. Snell also showing up. Kaikorai missed R. Waldron in the backs, and the mainstay was R. Jaffray (centre), with R. Thompson (second five-eighth) also making several neat thrusts. Bell scored two tries for Pirates, for whom Foley and McDonald also scored, Bell converting one try and Perriam kicking a goal from a penalty. Thompson scored for Kaikorai. Mr J. Walker was the referee.
