FIRE AT HOSPITAL

Brigadesmen prevented what might have been a serious fire at Quendon Maternity Hospital, 9 Market street, St. Kilda, late on Saturday night, when a detached wooden building caught fire. The building, which consisted of four bedrooms, was the .sleeping quarters for the staff. One room was severely damaged by fire and another slightly harmed by smoke and water. The brigade received the call at 11.18 P Other calls answered on Saturday were at 1.6 p.m. to a chimney fire in Somerville street, and at 10.56 p.m to a malicious false alarm from Shetland street.
