NEW TRADE AGREEMENT
BRITAIN AND BRAZIL SIGN
LONDON, May 21
An agreement between Britain and Brazil, signed in Rio de Janeiro, provides for trade exchanges between the two countries valued at £68,500,000 in 1948. Aggregate current transactions, including “invisible" trade, will exceed £100,000,000. Britain will supply coal, tinplate caustic soda, soda ash, cement, and petroleum products. Brazil will send coffee, meat, sugar, rice, oranges, cocoa, cotton, and timber. All current trade and financial payments between Brazil and the sterling area will be settled in sterling.
