RIVERS AT HIGH LEVEL STOCK MOVED IN TIME P.A. PALMERSTON N, May 23. Heavy rains during the week-end brought down floods in the Manawatu River and its tributaries, the Pohangina and Oroua Rivers, and the gauge at Fitzherbert bridge. Palmerston North for the Manawatu River showed a peak of 15ft 3in and at Rangiotu the Oroua at 3 p.m. was 18ft 6in above normal Water was lapping the deckings of the railway and road bridges at Oroua tonight and was still rising. Higher up the Oroua overflowed in three places, blocking nearby roads. The rain has now ceased. Farmers had advance information of the approach of the floods, and were able to move stock to higher ground.
