EARNEST PLEA

APPEAL FOR CHILDREN SUPPORT OF CITIZENS SOUGHT An earnest plea to all citizens to support the United Nations Appeal for Children is contained in a statement to the Daily Times by Mr E. F. Jones, president of the Otago Labour Representation Committee. , “The United Nations Appeal for Children must surely commend itself to every citizen in this Dominion, and it is gratifying to note that it is already meeting with a ready response," Mr Jones stated “ Having, as a serviceman, seen some of the devastation caused by war, and visualising the destruction of Europe plus the hardships imposed by the enslavement of its peoples, and the shifting of those able to work to. other countries, and the difficulties of reuniting families, I feel sure that the people of New Zealand appreciate the work of the United Nations in caring for these children, and will support this appeal to the utmost. “ The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, and the Labour Party conference have endorsed this appeal, realising the fate of the children of Europe depends on any assistance we may give,” Mr Jones concluded.
