Housewives Decry Butchers’ Service
p.A. AUCKLAND, May 22. "Whatever loss or expenditure butchers may claim to have suffered in recent years has not been incurred in their service to housewives.” With this statement, the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Housewive’s Association entered the fray this morning at the final Auckland sitting of the Fresh Meat Supplies Commission. From 1940 onwards, any courtesy services had been entirely eliminated and the barest service of cutting and serving over the counter observed, said Miss C. Pilkington, the association’s representative. “In fact, short of going to the abattoir for their meal and carrying it home themselves, wc feel that every ounce of service that can be filched from housewives has been taken,” she said.
