DOMINIE PLAYERS

TOUR OF PROVINCE CITY PRESENTATION Completing an interesting and ambitious provincial tour, a party of members and former members of the Dunedin Training College Drama Club presented James Bridie’s neat comedy, “Tobias and .the Angel,” at the Orphans’ Club Hall last evening. For two weeks during the winter vacation the party has been on the road in Central Otago, bringing the stage to audiences who would normally have no chance of seeing theatrical presentations locally. In Roxburgh, Alexandra, Wanaka, Cromwell and Arrowtown —the last township completely new territory for the group—the Dominie Players, as they style themselves, have presented their comedy to enthusiastic audiences. Combining an interest in the stage and a desire to promote the theatre in the country with a pleasant holiday, the Dominie Players have performed a worth-while service in their tour. It has linked up well with W.E.A. Drama Class activity in the province, apart from giving entertainment to people in areas seldom visited by other than cinema circuits. It was their second tour—Sutton Vane's “ Out'ward Bound” was taken to the country last year. From their earlier experience, the Dominie Players had discovered that they must be ready for every eventuality, and their caravan of a truck and several cars was laden with all the equipment they might conceivably require. Even so, ingenuity was called for on several occasions. The . company on tour totalled 16 members, 11 players and the remainder looking after properties, staging and other aspects of production.
