RABBIT SKIN LEVY

IMPOSITION DURING ENSUING YEAR COLLECTION IN DUNEDIN P.A. WELLINGTON. Mav 20. A levy equal to 10 per cent, of the full market value will be imposed on all rabbit skins sold during the period June 16, 1948, to May 31, 1949, inclusive. This was announced to-night by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Cullen, who said that as auction sales of rabbit skins were concentrated in Dunedin the collection of the levy would be handled in the district office of the Department of Agriculture there. In accordance ,with the rabbit skin levy regulations, gazetted to-night, the levy is payable on all auction sales of rabbit skins by brokers and on all purchases by wholesale traders direct from rural vendors. Brokers must include the amount of the levy in their invoices for purchases, and wholesale traders or manufacturers must pay the levy to the brokers, who are responsible for its payment to the department. Wholesale traders buying skins direct from rural vendors must pay the levy when furnishing their monthly returns to the department.
