THIRD PARTY RISK ALTERATIONS TO PREMIUMS P.A. WELLINGTON, May 20. Alterations have been made in the motor vehicle third-party insurance premiums payable for the 1948-40 licensing year to include:— Decreases Service cars and coaches from 100 s plus 2s a seat over seven (maximum 118 s), to 80s olus 2s a seat over seven (maximum 100 s). For examples, the annual premium for a 20-seater service coach has been reduced from £5 10s to £5, and for a 12-sea ter service car from £5 10s to £4 10s. Workers’ contract cars, from 25s to 20s. Hearses, ambulances, etc., from 12s to 10s. Increases Motor cycles, from 15s to 16s. Private motor cars, from 20s to 21s. Trade motors, trucks, etc., from 32s to 355. Rental cars, from 60s to 90s. Buses, from 140 s plus 2s a seat ovci 10 (maximum 180 s), to 160 s plus 2s a seat over 10 (maximum 200 s), For example, the annual premium for a 30seater or over bus will be increased from £9 to £lO a bus. For mobile cranes, a new class, with a premium of 20s per annum, has been created. “These changes in the premium rates,” said the Minister of Transport, Mr Hackett, have been made on the recommendation of a committee comprising representatives of the motor unions and the commercial road transport organisations after negotiations with the insurance companies. The changes in the premium rates demonstrate that careful driving is good business.”
