LIBRARY ASSOCIATION

ELECTION OF OFFICERS P.A. NAPIER, May 20. Mr J. W. Kealy, of Auckland, was elected president of the New Zealand Library Association at the annual meeting this morning. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, was reappointed patron, and other officers elected were:—Vice-presidents—Messrs J. Barr (Auckland), J. H. Oldham (Napier), G. C. Petersen (Palmerston North), H. G. Miller and C. A. L. Treadwell (Wellington); council —Messrs R. F. Barr and W. J. Harris (Dunedin), O. W. Collins (Christchurch), A. K. Elliott (Timaru), N. Gordon and F. A. Sandall (Auckland), C. S. Perry and W. S. Wauchop (Wellington); secretary, Mr G. T. Alley (Wellington); assistant secretary, Miss M. S. Fleming (Wellington); editor, Mr W. J. McEldowney (Wellington). It was announced that the Esther Glen medal for the best children’s book in 1947 was awarded to “ Myths and Legends of Maoriland,” by A. W. Reed, of Wellington.
