THIRTEEN DEBUTANTES

Centennial Ball at Ranfurly ■ On Thursday, May 13, the Maniototo branch of the Federated Farmers held a centennial ball and presentation of debutantes at Ranfurly. A record crowd for the district filled the hall, which was •gaily decorated with centenial emblems, streamers, balloons and coloured lights. The debutantes, escorted by their partners, advanced up the centre of the hall to the stage, where they were met by the Maniototo branch president, Mrs P. H. R, Clarke (floral satin) and Mrs R. J. E. Smith (white cloque), who presented each girl with a Victorian posy. Mrs Clarke then presented each debutante to Mrs W. A. Bodkin, who wore black lace, and to Mrs J. Charles, the Otago provincial president of the W.D.F.F., whose gown was of burgundy taffeta and sequins. The debutantes were:—Misses Daphne Graham (white satin, net skirt), Maude Phillips (full-skirted white taffeta), Betty Drake (white draped marquesette), Betty Kennedy (white cloque picture frock), Margaret Simpson (white taffeta), Shirley Hore (off-the-shoulder white taffeta), Margaret Ramsay (white marquisette period frock), Margaret Elliot (white crepe de chine). Mavis Telfer (white lace and organdie), Ann Helm (white marquisette), Moira Prattley (white satin), Joan Kennedy (white silk velvet and taffeta), Mae Keating (white and silver taffeta).
