May 22 Waikato R.C. May 22 Sth. Canterbury J.C. May 22 Foxton R.C. May 29 Levin R.C June 5,7, 12 .. Dunedin J.C. ■Answer to Correspondent ’’ Punter," Dunedin.—Brookby Song won the Great Northern Steeples with 11.9. This year he has 12 stone. Gold Song Schooled At Wingatui yesterday morning Gold Song was schooled over two hurdles and gave a satisfactory display, although he got in rather close to the second jump and rapped it. Jottings Baffling will have his first race across country at Washdyke to-morrow. Nominations for the Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting are due to-day. They grey galloper Falconbridge is racing consistently, having finished second in his three most recent races. Brother to Maharajah The Turk, who is expected to show improvement before long, is a four-year-old gelding by Bulandshar from Choral, by Hunting Song, and is thus a brother to Maharajah. Great Northern Candidate Pimlico, a candidate for the Great Northern Hurdles, was a winner over battens at the recent Woodville meeting. He is only a four-year-old and may not be seasoned enough for the big jumping event at Ellerslie. It is 26 years since a horse of that age won the event. Improvement Likely Bonny Royal finished third in her race at Washdyke last Saturday and very little improvement on that form would make her hard to beat in the Southburn Hack Handicap to-morrow. A four-year-old mare by Royal Chief, she was got from Bonny June, by Song Bird from Obedio, by Obsono from Blackfillan, by Blackstone from Strathfillan, a mare tracing back to Tasman. Good Finishing Run Valley Boy, after being badly placed in the early stages of the President's Handicap at the Waikato meeting, put in a fine finishing run to get second. He carried 9.5, or lib less than he has in the Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie, for which he is now one of the favourites. Engaged at Washdyke Tenorman’s only start this season was in the Tuatapere Handicap at the Southland meeting last month. He was the outsider on both machines, and after making a slow beginning, he was never in the picture. He is engaged in the hurdle event at Washdyke to-morrow, but can hgrdly be ready to show his best form. Trip Cancelled The Wingatui trainer, J. A. Wilson, has abandoned the idea of taking Detain to Auckland. His ill-fortune in losing the services of Lord Dundonald, who broke down at Washdyke, was added to at Wingatui yesterday morning when a halfbrother to Lord Dundonald by Salmagundi broke a shoulder and had to be destroyed. Unlikely Starter Ruling Moment is an unlikely starter at Wasndyke to-morrow, as he crashed heavily when being schooled over the steeplechase fences at Wingatui yesterday morning. His rider, F. J. Boyle, was taken to the hospital suffering from a fractured elbow. Royal Writ, who set out with Ruling Moment, jumped three of the fences in good style.
