Miss Nancy Johnston will leave to-day to spend a short holiday with Mrs W. B. Dell, of Christchurch. Miss Ruth French, who has been,a guest at Wain’s Hotel, left yesterday for Christchurch. Miss Yvonne Stevenson, of Alton avenue, left by plane yesterday morning for Napier. Mrs W. A. Thomson, of " Ferntree House,” Kaikorai, is spending a holiday in Christchurch, and later expects to go to the West Coast. Mrs Leslie Dunn and Miss Judith Dunn will leave to-morrow for the north where Miss Dunn will join the Sydney Star on her way to England. Mr and Mrs James Mercer, and Miss Elaine Mercer, of Christchurch, who arrived in Dunedin on Wednesday, are guests at the Law Courts Hotel. Mrs G. Scott, of Gisborne, who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs R. Kirk, of London street, left for the north yesterday. The Mayor, Mr Cameron, and Mrs Cameron, who are at present visiting Nelson, intend spending a few days at Mount Cook before they return home. Mrs J.'W. Hall, of South Head, Helensville, who arrived by plane yesterday, is the guest of Mrs E. M. Holmes, of Victoria road, St. Clair Mrs I. N. Spedding. of Mosgiel, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs A. Heath, left yesterday for Napier, where she will stay with Mrs Heath for some weeks. Dr R. Ogilvie Buchanan, of London University, and Mrs Robert Wright, of Auckland, are the guests of Major W. Pollard and Mrs Pollard, of Albert street, St. Clair. Mr and Mrs H. G. Woolman, accompanied by their daughters Daphne, Margaret and Judith, will leave to-morrow to join the Sydney Star en route to England. Mr and Mrs Woolman have been guests of honour at a number of parties during the past few weeks. The St. Kilda Mothers’ Club evening for May was a very enjoyable one, when members had the pleasure of hearing a reading by Miss A. McDougall on the “ Child in Literature.” This was ably illustrated by Mrs Fairbairn. A competition and musical items by Mrs Timms were also appreciated by members. The annual meeting of the Central branch of the Mothers’ Club of the Plunket Society was held on Monday evening in the rooms, Albany street, bringing to a conclusion a successful year. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: Chairwoman, Mrs Granger; vicechairwoman, Mrs Warburton; assistant secretary, Mrs Peterson; committee —Mesdames McLean, McHugh, Booth, Cooper, Kail, Wards and La Hood. Mr and Mrs T. A. Thomson, of Cromwell street, Wakari, held a 5 o’clock party at their home on Wednesday for the delegates to the conference of the New Zealand Carbonated Waters Association and their wives. Others present were Mr and Mrs F. G. Haig. Mr and Mrs J. G. Jeffery, Mr and Mrs W. Lang, Mr and Mrs A. C. Stephens, Mr and Mrs L. M. Wright, Misses King and Harford, Messrs P. G. Connolly. M.P., D. C. Berry, F. Hitchens, D. Archer, G. Simpson, J. Somerville and W. A. Thomson. Miss Ruth French, adjudicator in dancing for the Royal Academy examinations, was the guest of honour at a morning tea reception given by Miss Lily Stevens in the Tudor Lounge on Wednesday. Those present were:—Mesdames Winston Brinsley, J. Y. Love, H. T.' Speight, Jean Kirk-Burnnand, C. D. Barkman, J. T. Leach and Fairbrother, Misses Helen Gard’ner (Wellington), Joy Lewis (Invercargill), Ngila Slowley, Laura Bain, Thelma Hudson and Rosetta Powell, Messrs W. Russell Wood, S. Lawson, S. Lawn, J. T. Leech, K. W. Stewart, J. C. H. Somerville, S. Smyth, E. J. Smith and J. W. Wilson.
