CALL TO PRAYER

PEACE IN HOLY LAND

SACRED PLACES ENDANGERED

P.A. AUCKLAND, May 19. A call to prayer for peace in the Holy Land is being issued to the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand by the moderator of the church, the RevJ. D. Smith, of Mount Eden. “War,” he says, “fierce and bitter, has come to the Holy Land. Places most sacred to our faith are the scenes of a relentless struggle between Jew and Moslem. All efforts at mediation have so far failed, and the situation contains elements of wider strife. The attention and concern of all men are concentrated on the land where our Lord lived and died for the world’s redemption. The Christian forces of the world are challenged by such a situation and are called upon to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. “Accordingly all ministers of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand are requested to observe Sunday, May 23, or Sunday, May 30, as a day of intercession for the peace and tranquillity of the Holy Land and that the blessing of Almighty God may attend all efforts for mediation between the warring parties.”
