Centennial Stamp Stocks Dwindling

Special Corcrspondent. WELLINGTON, May 19. Supplies of the Otago centennial stamp issue are dwindling and it may not be necessary for the post office to fix a definite withdrawal day. The Postmaster-general, Mr Hackett, said to-day: “Since the centennial stamp issue was placed on sale on February 23 last, there has been a sustained demand for it and supplies are now becoming depleted. If this present demand keeps up, supplies will shortly lac exhausted and there will not be any necessity to fix a definite withdrawal date for the issue.

“On Saturday next, the stamps will have been on sale for three months as was the intention when the issue was made. The Otago centennial stamps have attracted very wide interest and we have received, especially from overseas, many favourable comments on the standard of the designs. There is no doubt that the issue has been a complete success and both m New Zealand and overseas has attracted attention +o the centenary of Otago.’' The next issue of special interest to be made by the post office will be the Koyal visit stamps. A competition for designs for these is now being conducted by the post office.
