OAMARU COMPETITIONS

HIGH STANDARD THROUGHOUT

Special to the Daily Times

' , OAMARU, May 19. In interviews on Tuesday night, the three judges at the Oamaru Competitions Society’s centennial festival all commented on the high standard of the performers. * Dr Verndn Griffiths, professor of music, Canterbury College, Christchurch, said the general standard in the vocal work so far had been good in proportion to the size of the competitions. Mrs J. P. O'Sullivan, F.T.C.L., Christchurch, said the general Standard in the elocution work was quite good, with some outstanding talent. More attention could be paid to the character work, and in many cases the voice production did not receive the attention it required.
