COASTAL VESSEL GAEL

EX-SOLDIERS’ VENTURE

P a, WELLINGTON, May 19. ’Recently purchased by a co-opera-tive' profit-sharing syndicate of eight returned servicemen, the sfnall coastal vessel Gael is due at Wellington this week. Manned and operated by seven of the syndicate, the Gael is to run a weekly service between Lyttelton and Wellington, starting next week. The manager of the syndicate, named the Southern Cross Shipping Company, is Captain J. F. Holm, of John Holm and Co., Wellington. The Gael, which formerly carried cargo between Wellington and Hokitika, is being replaced by a larger-vessel, the Haiuti, which was used by the New Zealand Navy during the war. She is at present being refitted-, in Auckland for the' West Coast trade.
