RECENT SUCCESSES

Stock of the Southland sire Baffles have met with considerable success in recent North Island handicap events. At Te Aroha Sylis and Conspiracy galloped away from the opposition in the Te Aroha President’s Handicap, 'and a week later Conspiracy won the principal event at Franklin. Sylis scored a third in the Hamilton Handicap at the Waikato meeting, and followed this up by winning the President’s Handicap on the same epurse last Saturday. Conspiracy was third in the same race. Having her first start over a distance since going into J. J. Waller's stable, Audacious finished third in the May Handicap at the Woodville meeting, and she was third again in the Ta Timi Kara Handicap at the Otaki-Maori meeting. In the hack division, Baffles Rex has had two successes over nine and ten furlongs respectively. Baffles Rex put up a sterling performance to carry nine stone and win over a mile and a-quarter at the Egmont meeting. Baffles has also been well represented in hurdle races by Glenfayle and The Fake. The Fake has won his only two hurdle races this season, and is improving with each race. A powerful bay gelding, he is a brilliant fencer, and is engaged in the Great Northern Hurdles. —Published by arrangement.
