OVERSEAS POST

FORMER NEW ZEALANDER

ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION

At one time secretary of the boys’ department at the Dunedin Y.M.C.A., Mr Eric Nicol, now a naturalised citizen of the United States, has been named director of organisation and personnel of the Atomic Energy Commission. This news, which was reported in the Los Angeles Times on April 22, has been received by Mrs H. T. Speight, of Dunedin, who is a sister of Mr Nicol’s wife, who was formerly Miss Winnie Bardsley. The message in the Los Angeles Times, which is from Washington, and is headed “Atomic Board Calls Los Angeles Man," says that before the war Mr Nicol was with the Bureau of the Budget and in war-time served with the War Production Board and LendLease Agency. For the past four years he has been vice-president in charge of personnel for the United Rexall Drug Company in Los Angeles. Mr Nicol is a son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Nicol, of Christchurch. About 20 years ago he left New Zealand to study at Columbia University in the United States. He flew out to New Zealand two years ago to visit his parents.
