WELLINGTON, May 18. In a ballot for the election of the Central Executive of the Labour Party, Mr P. M. Butler, secretary of the Wellington General Labourers' Union, has replaced Mr P. Dowse, manager of New Zealand Labour Newspapers, Ltd., as an executive member. This is the only change in the personnel of the Central Executive, whose members have a large voice in the direction of the party’s affairs. There were 46 candidates for the five seats on the executive. Those elected were Messrs Butler, H. E. Combs, M.P. for Onslow, R. Eddy, M.L.C., a former president of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, J. O. Johnson, president ..of the Wellington Labour Representation Committee, and M. Moohan,' M.P. for Petone. Heading the list of defeated candidates was Mr L. C. Hair, general secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union. Mr Butler was recently successful in the election for the National Executive of the Federation of Labour at the Dunedin conference of the federation. He now takes a seat in the innermost councils of both the industrial and political Labour movements.
