FAT STOCK AUCTIONS

CONTINUANCE SUPPORTED The Southern District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society will present evidence to the Commission of Inquiry on Fresh Meat Sfipplies to support Federated Farmers. This decision was made at the conference of the council at Gore. , The secretary of the council, Mr A. C. Cameron, of Dunedin,_ said that the commission would consider whether the present auction system of disposing of stock for the local market should be continued and to what extent. Mr H. P. Mclntyre, of Gqre, said that Federated Farmers were in favour of the auctions being continued. Mr Peter Campbell, of Wyndham, said that the society shpuld oppose any interference with auction sales of fat The council decided to draw attention to the fact that a primary producer was not included on the commission, and to recommend that one be appointed from the South Island because all the members of the commission were from the North Island. The council also agreed t<3 protest against any suggestion of dispensing with auction sales for fat stock.
