ONE FALL EACH

LIVELY WRESTLING BLOMFIELD DRAWS WITH LEVY Lofty Blomfield (17st) drew with Len Levy (17st 71b) in the professional wrestling match at the Town Hall last night, each man securing a fall. . A crowd numbering about 3000 thoroughly enjoyed the bout, which was full of action and was marked by good wrestling by both men. , Blomfield effectively disposed of any suggestion that he is on the decline, and, although he tired a little towards the end of a fast and lively match, this was understandable in view of the fact that he has done less wrestling than his opponent in the past few months. Blomfield indicated, however, that with a few more matches he should be able to recapture his best form of a few years ago. 1 Levy introduced variety* _ into his headlocks by leaping high in the air for added momentum, while Blomfield concentrated upon headlocks and toeholds, using solid forearm jolts to aid in the good work. Very early in the proceedings Levy showed that he was adept in the use of his legs, both in attack and defence, and also proved quite capable of responding to Blomfield’s jolts in kind. In the second round Levy came off the ropes with two flying tackles, a repetition of which might have proved disastrous for Blomfield, who, however, kept a very wary eye on his opponent. ( Levy was expert in the use' of the hammerlock, but when he applied an arm stretch in the third round Blomfield kicked his way out. Blomfield obtained the first fall of the match in the fourth round. After a series of headlocks and forearm jolts, he pinned his opponent with a body press. In the succeeding three rounds Levy showed that he, too, had plenty of power in his forearm jolts, but his most punishing work was done with a stepover toehold, Blomfield making a grab at the referee's leg to break such a hold in the sixth round. Blomfield held grimly to the ropes, but Levy exerted considerable strength to drag him into the ring to apply a double' toehold just before the round ended. Blomfield looked like holding his advantage' when the men came out for the last round, but Levy cleverly sent him to the mat when he connected with a drop kick from a fingerhold. Levy gave Blomfield no time to recover, and, following a series of headlocks, took the equalising fall with a body press, the match ending in a draw. Mr T. Samson was the referee. The Preliminaries J. Williamson (9.1) defeated N. Clarke (7.12) by the only fall of the match, obtained in the second round with a cross buttock and body press. J. R. Donaldson (9.5) beat R. McCabe (9.5) by two. falls to one. McCabe took the first fall in the opening round with a wrist hold. Donaldson secured his falls by means of- a further nelson in the second round and a cradle hold in the last round. E. Coughlan (10.1) beat J. McCabe (9.10) by two straight falls, secured in the second and third rounds, by means of a further helson and body press. R. Sutherland (10.7) beat G. Watson (10.7) by one fall, gained in the third round with a chancery and bar. Mr Colin Turner was the referee for the amateur preliminaries.
