HOUSING FOR ELDERLY PERSONS “ It is pleasant to say that the eight cottages for elderly persons in David street have been completed. We are now taking the preliminary steps for the erection of the third and largest block in Fawcett, Melbourne and Kirkcaldy streets,” said the chairman of the Finance Committee, Cr Taverner, at a meeting of the City Council last night. Cr Taverner added that a report should be placed before the council in the near future. “We hope to get the block completed within three years.” he said. “It is discouraging to the Finance Committee that greater despatch is not possible in this work. We are hoping to consider a fourth and larger block. Applicants are numerous and the work is a humane one.
