COAL FROM OVERSEAS

P.A. AUCKLAND, May 17. A shipment of 7500 tons of Indian coal for the New Zealand Railways will reach Auckland from Calcutta on June 10 in the British steamer Wansford. The first Government consignment of 8700 tons recently reached Wellington from Calcutta, being the first Indian coal imported for more than 20 years. About 18,000 tons of railways coal from Britain have been imported this year, and a trial shipment of South African coal for the Railways Department will arrive at Wellington in the Clarepark this week.
