KEEN COMPETITION

CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE PRICES FULLY MAINTAINED P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, May 17. The fourth main Christchurch woo] sale of the 1947-48 selling season was held in the Radiant Hall to-day, the offering comprising 10,500 bales of new season’s wool and approximately 2000 bales of Joint Organisation stockpile wool. The official report says that the greasy selection was typical of a fourth Christchurch wool sale and contained a large percentage of back country and discoloured wools. There was also a fair offering of Romney wool from the Chatham Islands. Competition was keen, and the prices realised were fully up to recent overseas quotations and should be very satisfactory to the growers. The offering of lambs’ wool was eagerly competed for, and prices were firmer than at the Christchurch April sale. Practically the whole offering was sold at auction. The official range of prices is:—
