OTAGO TEAM

ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL FIVE PLAYERS DROPPED Fourteen players have been chosen to train for the Otago Association football team which has been entered in the Football Association tournament to be held at Wellington during the King’s Birthday week-end. They are:—L. Martin (MOsgiel), T. Gilchrist (Watersiders), T. Ness, I. Mason, L. Burgess (Roslyn-Wakari), W. Meehan, I. Walsh, B. Walsh (Northern), C. Thomas, A. Moir (Technical Old Boys), E. NewaJl (Maori Hill), F. Nauraan, L. D. Smith (Old Boys), R. B. Payne (University). The selectors, Messrs W. P. Smith, W. Wallace and G. Wright, announcing this selection, asked any player not available to notify the secretary of the association before to-morrow. The team, it was stated, would leave on June 3, and return on June 8. All the players named were asked to attend a practice at the Caledonian ground to-morrow evening. Five of the players in the Otago side which was beaten by Canterbury are not included. Management Committee A meeting of the Management Committee last night was presided over by the president, Mr W. P. Smith. The manager of the Otago team which played Canterbury last Saturday, Mr G. Wright, in his report stated that the game had been interesting. The Otago players had learned something of value, he was sure. They would need to train more intensively, perfect their combination and improve their footwork. Part of Mr Wright’s report was taken in committee. Mr D. Cook suggested that as a gesture from soccer players, part of the takings from the football Association tournament should be given to the United Nations Appeal for Distressed Children. He proposed that the takings on the King’s Birthday should be set aside. The suggestion was approved and will be sent forward to the New Zealand council for consideration. Mr W. P. Smith was nominated as a selector of the South Island team. Messrs B. Sharpe and G. Mowat were appointed selectors of the Otago Junior National Cup team. The Dunedin Tramway Club was given permission to play Christchurch Tramways on June 19. A* recommendation was made to the Grounds Committee that the game should be played on the Caledonian Ground at 3 p.m. Transfers were granted to S. Craig, Y.M.C.A. to Mornington; H. Pimm, Maori Hill to ROslyn-Wakari; J. Galloway, Mornington to Roslyn-Wakari; L. Whale,Maori Hill to Mornington. Temporary transfers were granted to J. Burke, Shamrock (Christchurch), to Technical Old Boys; C. Jarvis, Hutt Rangers (Wellington), to Technical Old Boys. '■ Draw for Saturday The draw for Saturday is:— First Grade.—Mornington v.
