Rugby Competition

The feature of the matches played on Saturday in the Otago Rugby Football Union’s senior competition was the keen opposition provided by the bottom team, Union, in the match against the leading fifteen Southern, in the early match at Carisbrook. Union has not yet won a game, but has shown consistent improvement. In an even and exciting game, Southern won by B—s.

There was an attendance of about 4000 at the main match between Dunedin and Port Chalmers. Dunedin won by 13 points to nil in s game which produced flashes of bright back play. Zingari-Richmond. maintaining its recent improvement, beat Kaikorai by 9 points to nil at Bishopscourt, and in a hard-fought game at Mosgiel Alhambra drew with Taieri, the score being 6-6. Pirates beat University B by default, and the game between University A and Training College will be played later. The playing conditions on Saturday were perfect.

The results were:— Southern 8, Union 5. Dunedin 13, Port Chalmers nil. Zingari-Richmond 9, Kaikorai nil. Taieri 6, Alhambra 6. Pirates beat University B by default.
