HILL JACK HOME
NEW MATERNITY HOSPITAL OPENING THIS WEEK Hill Jack Maternity Hospital, which has been modernised and attractively furnished, will be ready to receive cases this week. The staff is not yet up to strength, however, and it will not be possible for the full number of beds to be usdd until more trained nurses are available. For some time past inquiries have been made by expectant mothers as to when the hospital would be open, but, because of staff difficulties and delays in completing the furnishing and equipment of the new hospital, no bookings could be made. Instead, applicants were advised that the opening date of the hospital would be advertised and bookings accepted as they came forward. In view of the- shortage of accommodation for maternity cases in the city, it is expected by the authorities that applications' will be made early to-day, and beds will fye occupied during this week. The hospital will be conducted on the “ open ” system. The wards are attractively furnished, and the surroundings are ideal for a maternity hospital. Before the full number of beds can be put into use, additional staff will be required, and the hospital authorities are hopeful that the shortage of nurses will be overcome and the hospital enabled to take its full quota of cases.
