BOWLING CENTRE
Several alterations in the constitution of the Dunedin Bowling Centre are proposed in a recommendation approved at the monthly meeting of the centre’s executive on Saturday night, to be put forward at the annual meeting. Meanwhile the recommendation will be submitted to clubs for their discussion.
The most important alteration proposed is the restriction on the size of the centre's executive to the president, immediate past president, the vice-president, the honorary treasurer and nine other members representing all clubs as provided in one of the rules, together with the centre delegates to the New Zealand Bowling Council. The president, Mr W. Johnston, was in the chair. “ It is ridiculous to think one can obtain a trophy of the type stipulated in the rules for £1 or £2. It would be much better if the winners were allowed to buy something useful,” said Mr E. Longworth when accounts for various trophies won at the Easter tournament were being considered. AH the accounts except one, which was for a pair of towels were passed for payment. The New Zealand Bowling Association's rule states that a trophy must be a lasting memento.
A general discussion was provoked by a proposed recommendation to the annual meeting that Holmes Feathers’ teams which defaulted shoulcl be debarred from entering the competition in the next season. The recommendation was lost on a show of hands. It was decided to pass for payment the centre’s previously authorised contribution of £3O towards the summer sports’ float in the centennial procession. It was decided that a hiring fee of £1 should be made to clubs for the film of the Dominion tournament held in Dunedin earlier this year.
