SHEEP FEED TO BE RATIONED

P.A. WELLINGTON, May 14. . Although, in anticipation of a twoday voyage, only a proportionate quantity of feed was carried for the 1200 sheep on board the Port Waikato, the mortality among the stock when the ship berthed at Wellington after seven days at sea would not be high, stated the Lyttelton agent for the company, in a telephone interview to-day. Seeing that the voyage was likely to bp extended, the crew would take steps to ration the feed for the animals. Some of the sheep would fail to survive, but Chatham Island stock was of a hardy breed and well able to withstand hardship. It was unlikely that further supplies of food and water would be required on board the Port Waikato for her passengers and crew, it was stated in Wellington.
