VALUES MAINTAINED At the fortnightly Balclutha sale, 800 fat sheep and 2500 store sheep were penned. In. the fat section the quality was confined mostly to light to medium ewes, with a few pens of wethers and fat lambs. Competition for the greater part came from freezing buyers and the offering was sold at full schedule rates. The largest proportion of the store yarding was made up of medium ewe and wether lambs, with odd pens of good quality wether lambs. Values on late rates were fully maintained. Quotations :j— „„ Fat Sheep.—Heavy ewes, 30s to 32s 9d; medium, 27s to 29s Gd; light. 20s to 235; young ewes, 43s to 48s; medium wethers. 50s; light wethers, 44s to 475; heavy lambs, 43s to 455; medium. 37s to 395; light, 32s to 33s 3d. Store Sheep.—Good-conditioned soundmouth crossbred ewes, 37s 6d; cull Rom-ney-cross two-tooth ewes. 23s 3d to 255; two and four-tooth, wethers, 3Gs to 40s; failing-mouth ewes (not in lamb). 17s 9d to 22s 3d; good Romney-cross ewe lambs, 37s 6d; medium, 32s 6d; small. 28s; good wether lambs, 29s 6d to 30s 8d; medium, 26s Gd; cull. 18s 9d; good mixed-sex rape lambs, 28s 6d to 32s Gd. Fat Cattle.—A small yarding of 16 head, mostly good quality cows and heifers, was offered. Fat cows made from £lO 5s to £ls; heifers, tq £l2 ss; light-weight bullocks, to £ls ss. Store Cattle.—There was a yarding of 50 head, comprising cows heifers and calves. Two-year-old Black Polled heifers made from £8 8s to £lO ss; cows and calves. £5 10s, all counted. Dairy Cows.—Young cows, close to profit,'to £ls; good conditioned heifers at drop, £ls io £l6 15s.
