UNITED NATIONS APPEAL
Sir,—l would like to congratulate our Otago University students on the splendid results obtained from their efforts to entertain us and also the weightier matter of raising £IOOO for our Crippled Children Fund. It shows what can be done by enthusiasm and speed. As one who is deeply interested in the campaign for funds for the children of Europe. I would like to suggest that we have something spectacular to aid this effort. It could be a function in the Town Hall, with Mr L. M. Wright and his committee in attendance, not holding collecting boxes, but rather taking their stand beside a proper treasure chest into which the moving procession of people could place their bank notes, etc. The students collected 40,000 pennies. I believe we could get 40,000 notes just as easily if the opportunity was given.—I am., etc.. Speed Up.
Sir, —Since we have been asked to donate one day’s earnings to the "Give a Day and Save a Child ’’ campaign, we would be interested to know from which countries the food is to be procured and from where the shipping is coming. Also, why is it that Germany and the other occupied countries are still so far from being self-supporting, consequently remaining a burden to Britain, a country herself lacking in many of the essential nutritious foods.—Wc are, etc.. Two Curious Donors.
