MR DE VALERA
Sir,—l fail to understand why Mr De Valera should stay in New Zealand as the guest of the taxpayers. Mr De Valera is still trying to split up the Empire, and Is no friend of Britain. Even during the war it was difficult to know where his sympathies lay.—l am, etc., British.
Sir,—l am enclosing an extract from a letter received from an engineering student at Belfast University, 25 years of age.—l am, etc., North Dunedin. The extract follows:—I hear auld De Valera is on his way to Australia to give voice about his sore point, the partition of Ireland. If he ever arrives in New Zealand, read what he has got to say, but remember this—when- Hitler killed himself in Berlin, De Valera had the impudence to send his sympathy to the German Ambassador in Dublin, about 100 miles from Belfast, in spite of the fact that he knew about Belsen and other concentration camps. This man hates Britain and all things British (all through the war there was an Ambassador from Germany in Dublin). Churchill said that if Ulster had not remained loyal they would have been forced to take over the Irish ports to protect themselves. De Valera probably thinks his faux pas has been forgotten—l hope this helps it to follow him.
