VICTORY IN SIGHT

AUSTRALIANS’ BIG SCORE AGAINST CAMBRIDGE LONDON, May 13. Australia has another very easy victory in sight in its ihatcli against Cambridge University, which, with seven wickets down in the second innings, still requires 103 runs to avert an innings defeat. In spite of the extra 30 minutes’ play allowed under the new M.C.C. rule, Australia could not quite force an innings win to-day. A deadly spell of bowling by McCool, who took six for 59, opened the possibility of victory in two days, but Trevor Bailey and the Cambridge captain, Mills, played out all but three minutes of the extra time before Mills was caught in the deep field. Brown’s double century—a knock of text-book neatness overshadowed only in magnitude Hamence’s forceful 92 and Hassett’s bright' 61 not out. Brown was the sixth Australian to score a century on this tour. His 200 occupied 295 minutes, and he hit 16 4’s. It was not a chanceless innings, as he was dropped twice. Hamence batted for 150 minutes. Hassett declared immediately Brown was dismissed. Scores:— ' .
