RECEPTION AT ALLEN HALL
Federation of University Women
The aim of the International Federation of University Women is to promote understanding and friendship between the university women of the world regardless of race or creed, and the organisation, which has branches in 36 countries, is making an active contribution to peace by fulfilling this aim. In her address at tlie annual reception to new graduates in the Allen Hall on Wednesday afternoon, Miss E. M. Henderson, president of the Dunedin branch of the federation, welcomed new graduates, members, and visitors, and outlined the nature and functions of this fellowship. Miss Henderson gave an interesting account of a conference of the International Federation, which she attended at Stockholm in 1939, making special reference tc the integrity of mind, determination of purpose, and. above all, the modesty of the delegates, many of whom were world authorities in their particular subjects. She reviewed briefly some of the problems encountered by the federation in other countries and the measures taken to overcome these difficulties. Each new graduate was presented with a spray of flowers, and a similar honour was paid to Miss M. S. Harrison and Miss F. M. Allan. The reception concluded with afternoon tea and an informal social hour.
