TRACK WORK AT RICCARTON WASHDYKE CANDIDATES Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. Mestiza was the most impressive of the candidates for the Elloughton Handicap who were given final trials on No. 1 grass track at Riccarton* this morning. The track had been softened by rain, and the conditions suited Mestiza. who strode along freely over a mile with Falconbridge, and beat him by three-quarters of a length in lmin 47 3-ssec. They were together until a few strides short of the finishing post, the last half taking 53 4 *Ned Kelly is right at the peak of his form for the Claremont Hack Handicap. With his trainer, L. Cavalier, in the saddle, and carrying a good deal more weight than Regal Lily, he shaded her throughout their trial over seven furlongs in lmin 32 3-ssec, the first three furlongs taking 40sec. Siegwood had something in reserve at the end of four furlongs m 51 4-ssec, Nightblush following in 51sec. Ronaici Macdonald took 52Jsec, and Graeme came home over the last half of an easy mile in 52 3-ssec. Loch Lennox, after taking Msec for the first furlong, completed five in lmin 7 l-ssec. Broie, Detract and Diameter went at three-quarter pace for the first haU of their mile, and then increased the pace to come home in 52 3-ssec, with Detract overhauling his companions in. the last few strides to finish on terms with Broie, Diameter being a neck away. Royal Saleve cleared six hurdles satisfactorily, though he did not show any liking for his work. Although C. G. Humphries has accepted for Dark Arrow, Arctic Circle and Magnaform at Washdyke, they are already in the North Island, and will run at Otaki on Saturday, with C. T. Wilson as the rider of Dark Arrow and Arctic Circle K. Nuttail is also going to Otaki and will ride Elofa and Arvagold. Great Victory is a doubtful starter m the Claremont Hack at Washdyke..
