MR R. J. WALKER ELECTED

P.A. INVERCARGILL. May 12. The mayoral election at Riverton today resulted In the success of Mr R J. Walker, who defeated Mr P. Gilfedder bv 2G4 votes to 56, with four informal. The vacancy was caused by the recenti .deatn of Judge F. O. V. Acheson. A native of Tasmania, Mr Walker has been in New Zealand for over 40 years, for more than 20 of which he was connected with the sawmilling industry.
