ALHAMBRA’S SUCCESS
TROPHY WON 'FOR FIRST TIME For the first time since 1938, when the Murphy Memorial Trophy was presented for competition between the two clubs, Alhambra recorded a win against its hitherto successful opponent, Kaikorai, on Saturday, at Bishopscourt by the margin of 13 points to nil. A large crowd was present despite the light drizzle, and although the football was not of a particularly high standard—as was to be expected in the first match of the season—both teams provided occasional bright play. The improving Alhambra forwards, who possessed a marked superiority, gained a regular supply of the ball from the scrums and line-outs, but the two packs were evenly matched in the loose. In the Red and Black back division, D. Leckie was prominent, scoring the first try, which was converted by E. Michie. Alhambra s other points came from two tries scored by the young second five-eighth, S. Jeffs, Michie converting one of them. Of the Kaikorai players, R. McMeeking, in the forwards, and R. F. Waldron, first fiveeighth, played constructive football. The referee was Mr G. Little.
