BOWLING CENTRE

SPECIAL MEETING CALLED NOMINATIONS AND REMITS At a special meeting of delegates to the Dunedin Bowling Centre on Saturday night, support was given to the Auckland Centre’s nominations for the offices of president and treasurer of the New Zealand Bowling Council and to a Christchurch nomination for the vice-presidency. Mr W. Johnston presided at the meeting. An election of two delegates to represent the Dunedin Centre on the Dominion Council for the ensuing year was headed by Mr W. O. Clark, a retiring member, and Mr R. L. Fairmaid, of the Taieri Club. Other nominations received were those of Messrs S. Devereux (retiring member), H. Belcher (St. Kilda) and E. Longworth (Outram). Mr Devereux’s request for the withdrawal of his nomination was acceded to, and tributes were paid to his past services. Among remits for the annual meeting of the Dominion Council, which were discussed, was the subject of a centre blazer. It was unanimously decided to request the council to giye urgent consideration to the Dunedin Centre’s request for a dark blue blazer to be worn by centre members if club uniforms were not available. It was suggested that club colours or a monogram could be worn on the breast pocket of the universal blazer. A motion expressing appreciation of the services of Mr E. Rackley, a centre member who was leaving the city, was carried by acclamation. ‘ At an executive meeting, which followed, reports were presented on the conduct of the Adess Shield. Leads and Seconds, and Easter tournaments. A proposal by Mr Fairmaid that the centre alter its constitution in order to provide for a different basis of representation on the executive was widely discussed. After several delegates had expressed opinions, it was decided to redraft the motion and present it to the next meeting of the centre.
