“THE BEVERIDGE SCHEME”
Sir, —Lord Beveridge did not tell this story in his public address, so perhaps he has not heard it. An Englishman paced the floor of a London maternity ward, Finally a nurse reported to him that he was the father of triplets. A little later she brought the triplets to him and said. ” Pick the one you want to keep.” " One,” exclaimed the father, “ why only one? Can’t we keep all three? ” " Under the Beveridge scheme,” the nurse explained, “ one is for you, and two are for export."—l am, etc., W. R. G.
