TRANSFER OF PATIENTS

PLEASANT VALLEY SANATORIUM PROBLEM OF ACCOMMODATION FOR STAFF When questioned yesterday regarding the transfer of patients from tne Pleasant Valley Sanatorium to Wakari, Dr Brian Thompson, tuberculosis superintendent for the Otago hospital district, and Mr A. Steel, the acting chairman of the Otago Hospital Board, said that it would be many months before this could be completed. The provision of accommodation for staff and also dining and recreation rooms and other amenities was a greater problem than the removal of the existing shelters or the erection of new ones, they added. It was hoped that the majority of the present staff at Pleasant Valley would continue in the board’s service at Wakari or Dunedin, although it was recognised that some might not be able to do so if they had permanent homes in the Palmerston district.
