WASHHOUSE BURNED

FIRE CALLS IN CITY A detached wooden washhouse in Queen street, city, was extensively damaged by fire yesterday morning, the brigade receiving the call at 10.40. When a machine from the Central Fire Station arrived on the scene the building was in flames, and most of the contents were destroyed. A call whs received at 9.52 a.m. to Quarry street, Musselburgh, where a tar boiler, belonging to the St. Kilda Borough Council, caught fire. Little damage was done. Two calls were received to push and scrub fires in the afternoon, the first from Burnett street, Caversham, at 345, and the second to Fraser's Gully, Kaikorai, at 4.38. No. damage was done in either case.
