RABBIT SKIN SALE LOWER GRADES IN DEMAND The Dunedin Stock Agents and Woolbrokers’ Association (Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., Donald Reid and Co., Ltd., Stronach, Morris and Co., Ltd., New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Otago Farmers' Co-op. Assn., Ltd., and National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd.) reports that the first sale since December 9 was held yesterday, when an offering of approximately 40 tons was submitted for auction. Naturally at this time of the year the great proportion of skins comprised milky does, summers and broken, and the inquiry for these grades was very keen, with the result that prices were firm on those ruling at the last sale. There was also a proportion of racks and runners on offer, and these met with very good inquiry at high values. The competition was very keen and was well spread. The range of prices was:—Summers. 48£d to 50d per lb; summers, bloodstained, to 49d; milky does, 46d to 48d; third broken, 46d to 47Jd; runners, to 80d; runners, bloodstained, 70d to 79d; racks, 87d to 90d; racks, bloodstained. 87d to 88Jd: springs, 88d to lOOd; winters, to 107 d; hare skins, 20d to 30d; black, 20d to 55id; fawn, 49J to 52£d; horsehair, 47Jd to 51d: weevilly, 27Jd to 43d; second broken, to 89d; first stoat skins, 2s each; ferrets, 6d to Is each; first fallow deer, to 5s per lb. Subsidy to End Next Month The Rabbitskin Committee has announced the termination of the payment of subsidy on skins eligible as from March 3. This means that to obtain the payment any skins which quality must be received in time to be included in the sale which will be held on March 2, and to be included in this sale skins must reach brokers' store, Dunedin, by Wednesday, February 25.
