CENTENNIAL PYLONS
ADDITIONAL HAZARDS IN STREETS “ The centennial pylons seem to have constituted an additional hazard'in our streets," said the chairman Mr G. W. Ferens, at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Automobile Association (Otago) last evening. Two particularly dangerous points were the Dowling street corner, where parked cars left little room for the traffic stream, and the Moray place corner, where the Wakari bus stopped to let down passengers. One member suggested that it might be possible to have the pylons shifted to one side of the intersections, but it was agreed that this would make a blind spot. It was decided that the City Corporation s attention should be drawn to the danger, with a suggestion that the regulations regarding parking the proper distance back from the building line should be enforced. Brighton Road Support for a proposal that the Green Island-Kaikorai Stream Bridge roaa should be rebuilt along the stream, submitted by the Taieri Mouth Amenities Society, was decided upon. It was pointed out in the society’s letter that the present road was narrow, indirect, ana unnecessarily hilly. Stock were constantly on the road because of the proximity of. dairy farms. These problems woulc. be obviated by a level road beside the stream It was also decided to support a proposal for levelling and straightening dangerous sections of the Brighton-Taieri Mouth road. The society was submitting its proposals to the Minister of Works. Petrol for Travellers Advice that South Canterbury petrol resellers would endeavour to supply tne needs of travellers and would not ration sales unless their quota was close to exhaustion was received from the Automobile Association (South Canterbury).
