SPIRITLESS DISPLAY
INDIANS’ WEAK FOLLOW-ON AUSTRALIA’S EASY WIN IN FIFTH TEST Rec. 11.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, Feb. 10. . India gave a spiritless display m the fifth test, losing by an innings and 177 runs. A lack of fighting spirit in excellent conditions was the worst feature of the display. The Indians gave every sign of admitting Australian superiority and of being glad the game was all over. The attendance for the four days was 97,365 and the takings £9366. Phadkar, who was the only Indian able to resist strongly in the first innings, received no support, and the follow-on could not be avoided. He drove and pulled strongly and confidently. • ■ . Johnson (Queensland) finished the innings with two successive wickets and the bowling performances gener'ally gave the selectors few opportunities for a decision on the touring team. The second innings was just a procession, no batsman playing confi-_ dently.
